Port Hedland welcomes additional Virgin Australia flights

Virgin Australia has commenced extra flights between Perth and Port Hedland offering passengers more choice and flexibility when booking flights.

Mayor Kelly Howlett welcomed the additional flights to accommodate demand on the busy route.

“I’m pleased Virgin Australia is offering an extra three lunchtime flights a week to Perth,” Mayor Howlett said.

“We all know how quickly flights can book up – these new services will offer our residents more choice and flexibility when booking flights.

“It will also help alleviate congestion at our peak times.”

Virgin Australia Group Executive of Alliances, Network and Yield Merren McArthur said that the Port Hedland-Perth was an important route for corporate and resource sectors.

“We are delighted to be able to provide these travellers with a greater, more convenient range of flight times,” Ms McArthur said. 

“Now for any week day, customers can choose from a morning, midday or evening departure from Port Hedland to Perth.”

Mayor Howlett said the Port Hedland International Airport precinct was undergoing a major redevelopment with Council investing $70.5 million over the next five years.

“It’s one of our top priorities – we are going to create a modern and well-serviced airport that provides a welcoming gateway to the North West.

“The redevelopment will include refurbishments, infrastructure upgrades, new subdivisions and new business opportunities.”

The new services on Monday, Tuesday and Friday will depart Perth to Port Hedland at 11.05am, arriving at 1.10pm.
