Airport terminal transformation begins

Last week saw the start of construction works to improve passenger flow and refurbish the Port Hedland International Airport terminal.

Mayor Kelly Howlett said works will occur during the evenings to limit disruption to passengers and staff during the renovation period.

“The renovations will improve the terminal amenity and ease passenger congestion,” she said.

“As with any construction project, there will be minor inconveniences to passengers, and we ask for everyone’s patience during this period.

“With all construction happening outside of flight operating times, disruption will be minimised as much as possible.

“Starting today, the arrivals toilets will be closed for the next three weeks and passengers are asked to use the departures toilet while works take place.

“From mid-July works will commence to expand the departures lounge, refurbish the departures area toilets, replace the café flooring and improve the international departures lounge.

“Once the renovations are complete, the entire terminal and outside café area will become a non-smoking zone.”
